how do i put a LDA to a non LDA fuel pump???
« on: November 13, 2005, 09:58:13 am »
hello!
i've recently put an intercooler to my 1V 1.6 diesel engine and tweaked the pump(trashed the clutch also    ) aand had some fun but here comes a problem!
I noticed that my pump doesn't have a LDA(device whitch allows the pump to spray more fuel when the pressure from the turbo rizes)
so i guess my pump is set up for the high pressure of the turbo and when it's low the fuel is more than needed - as a result the fuel consumption is very high - 8l/100 km(and the burning process isn't as it has to be)
so my question is - is it possible to put only the LDA valve or do i have to change the entire pump??? :?

here's what an LDA pump looks like:

and here's what my current pump looks like:

and from the outside my engine(pump!) looks just like this:

so how do i get to have a LDA?????

thanks

sorry if the topic isnt at the right place but i'm new here

It can definitely be done. My question though is why not just swap the whole pump? If you found the proper LDA then you've likely found the correct pump. Trust me when I say there is a reason people charge a lot of money to work on pumps. They can be very frustrating and there is a lot of room to screw up small things.

Don't get me wrong - I'm sure you can do it....but just weigh the benefits either way before you resign to just changing the lid.

Since the LDA is a fuel limiting device, it will not increase the peak fuel injection quantity obtainable from your pump.  The LDA will however add extra adjustability and control to your pump, and might very well allow you to comfortably run more peak fuel quantity (and therefore increase usable power and torque), since it can prevent overfueling (and excessive smoking and EGTs) while not in boost.

LDA swap

I have a question... I have a '91 Eco (stock-non LDA pump). I would like to put an LDA pump on it. I have a spare pump which I thought was a LDA turbo pump but instead is a (early 90's N/A) altitude adjustment pump -from what I understand (correct me if I am wrong) mine has an LDA looking mushroom on top but the mushroom serves to adjust fuel as the altitude changes and has nothing to do with turbo function). I bought the extra pump thinking it was a true turbo pump and am now a bit disappointed. Is there any easy way to alter this pump to make it a true turbo LDA pump?

I have been away from the forum but months back no one had a straight answer for me... Giles?

Thanks
Andrew

Giles?

Maybe I would be better to ask if anyone have a spare turbo pump they would like to sell?

Thanks
