Dynolicious iPhone App

Any iPhones near you??
I've been playing with the Dynolicious App, it was bang on with a friends E46 M3 5sec 0-60 time & with a 4300lb vehicle weight & 19% driveline loss my rover pin AAZ showed 82hp. Repeated pulls were all identical. Regardless of the hp number with that repeatability any changes can be easily tested against that baseline. Of course without a RPM number calculating torque is out unfortunatly but for gauging the effectivness of this or that tweak, IC change, injector change etc it's fantastic.
FYI on the run here it wasn't a proper 0-60 run, I short shifted 1st in traffic & then accellerated hard in 2nd & 3rd with slow shifts. Its all about the accelleration over time for the hp calc so thats all I was going for. (no flame action on the 15.7@47mph 1/8 mile ok?) I think with a 2nd gear from idle to 4500rpm pull the curve would be pretty accurate.
With the same app being used & the same driveline loss as long as the vehicle weights are is accurate we can actually start to compare performance numbers around the world.
Any takers??

I think I'll get it. As long as you get a baseline it would be good for tuning. This way I can confirm that installing an intercooler and a boost controller are actually helping.

That's cool. A little bit more accurate than a butt dyno I guess.

I didn't need a thing other than my butt dyno to tell me my IC made a difference!!!!

I ended up buying one of the iPod touches after reading about this... I wanted an mp3player anyhow, why not go all out! So, when will the vwdiesel.net app be ready??
P.S. I'm sending this post from the aforementioned iPod.. Nothing like being able to keep up on forums from the toilet!

Tried this on my gf's iphone and it seems my 1.9 turbo diesel peugeot 306 has 260bhp, SWEEEEEEEET!
I knew it had a bit more than 90bhp but not that much haha.
Think i might need to adjust the weight i entered in it for the car.

What did you use for driveline loss??

The thing I like about it is no matter what you use for weight & driveline losses, if you keep those parameters you can very closly monitor the effects of tweaks or mods for actual differences instead of the old butt dyno method.

I feel that it is still fairly accurate.. The wagon I mentioned earlier is only rated at 170hp... I used the advertised curb weight plus my weight.. Didn't take into consideration the extra weight of the tool boxes and a full tank of gas... With driveline losses, and wind resistance a 70hp loss to the back wheels doesn't seem too far off.. When the snow goes away I need to do another run with all the crap removed and an empty tank...

19 or 20% i think similar to what you used, both being fwd cars after all.
Please note i do not think my car has 260bhp lol
