I'm just wondering what the difference is between the front Struts (mainly the coil springs) on a 91 Jetta diesel vs a gasser. It appears that they are different?? Why? The engines can't weigh that much more in a diesel?
Thanks!

I take it "Pds" is supposed to mean lbs?
Are these all water cooled engines?
I have a hard time believing that a 1.6 gasser weighs 120lbs less than a 1.6 diesel.
Is the 2792cc a VR6?
I agree- the 8v gasser and diesel should be just about the same. What are the differences? Injectors? IP? The basic block head and moving components can't be more than 5-10 pounds apart....
the weight difference comes from the diesel block having much more reinforcement cast into it, and that the cranks, unlike many gasser cranks, are fully counterweighted.
that and the extra weight of the injectors, injection pump, vacuum pump, intake manifold, etc... it all adds up.
100LB difference is not all that much when you consider the weight of the cast iron used in the block.
