Well I felt brave this weekend and decided to take my mk1 jetta to Sudbury from Mississauga to see a friend of mine.
On the way there Friday nite everything went well, I got stupid good mileage. (Did 400 km on just a little less than 1/2 tank).
Next morning she didn't complain about -12C start, did another 300 kms during the day, all was well. Then this morning I left, fuelled up and hit the hwy. All uneventful until south Barrie on the 400 when my temp started rising and was not fixed by putting the heat up full blast. I didn't wait until it went all the way, I pulled over, popped the hood and there it is. The hose going from the waterpump to the head had a giant crack in it and the coolant was just gushing out. Of course there was a tow truck right away and he gave me an ok deal to tow it home. (It was raining very hard, didn't feel like playing with it on the hwy)
I'm not sure how to look at it.
I'm sure happy it didn't happen 500kms from home, but couldn't it have waited till I got home
So I'll do all the hoses because the one I toke off was just falling apart as I toke it off, but sure would like to know if it was the hose of the stat that went first. I'll do the stat as well just to be sure. At least I know its not the head cause the coolant left in it is clean, so it the oil...
I'll post some pix of the trip cause it was really nice along with some videos I did with the cam on the dash
on some very nice curvy snowy roads.
Just wanted to share to release my coolant's pressure....
