water/meth injection?
« on: January 25, 2010, 07:10:55 am »
Has anyone on here ever run this on a TD engine?
If so, was it worth the effort?
Will it replace an intercooler?

the difference my FMIC has made is enormous in low end torque, boost numbers, i don't even have to look at my EGT's anymore.
For the amount of effort it is to mount them they are definately worth it. Far easier to set up and maintain than water/methanol ... just incase you were debating which to do.

Dont knock until youve tried my friends, youd be surprized what the meth does power wise as an extra fuel, for me it works better than my previous fmic setup and everthings constant, no more powerloss after traffic or on a warm day, of course both is better. On my car install was much easier than fmic, cheaper and filling is no problem.

yea, but that one time i want it and its empty, that would piss me off enough to take it off and never use it again. especially if i needed it for a reason, like racing a civic, or pulling out in front of someone and getting ass packed because my methanol was out. besides, only tweekers do meth, and im not gonna let my car be a tweeker. either way, its all about preference. and i prefer to use an a2a or a2w intercooler

Diesel World magazine has an article on water/meth injection.  they installed a kit on a VW TDI and had some nice results.  I don't have the mag in front of me, but I remember them being impressed and happy with the gains they saw.

when I had mine running(and when I install it on the new motor) I use regular windshield washer fluid, its about 50/50 distilled water/methanol, is cheap and readily available.

just be sure not to get the rain-x or bug remover stuff, as the detergents and other additives may be bad to run through the motor

I'll have both water meth and front mount on mine. Installing the front mount as we speak. Not to concerned about filling it up. Your not under boost all day long using that much water. It obviously works good.

you know, decarbonated beer is a better coolant than the stuff you buy at the auto store, and is better for you...... really

I've had mine on the Caddy about a year and a half. Set to come on at 5psi. I run about 50/50 distilled water/meth. Also running FMIC. Main advantage is for lowering EGT's at full throttle. Another advantage is it's steam cleaning your cyl head when it is on. I've been thinking about testing other mixtures. I thought I read somewhere that Methanol has a Octane rating of 127, great for gassers, not so sure about diesels. Anybody heard about using anything else?
