quick question on motor mounts+

One of my mounts is definitely going bad. I gave'r the beans in second and dented my fan shroud!
Which mount would be most suspect to do that? I am thinking the front. Is putting a heavy duty mount on going to rattle the hell out of my car and me?
I was warned against it but with the torque of these things it must be better.
Also on occasion i will get a slight grind shifting up to second if i am going for it...could this be because of a bad mount as well?
Who makes the best motor/tranny mounts for a Mk2?
Also i have a slight exhaust leak on the turbo housing (t3) around the wastegate cover, beside the dp. VW doesn't sell a new seal...could it be welded? What are the options with that kind of leak?

Did this car have one of the hydraulic motor mounts on the front (and it came apart?). I've never personally seen one of these mounts fail (except with frozen bolts from so much corrosion).

yeah i think its a hydraulic mount on the front. Its a 92 1.6 td if that helps.

I recently replaced all 3 motor mounts. My mechanic told me my front mount was bad, I replaced it, but there was no change (he was wrong). Then I replaced the rear passenger side mount - WOW! What a difference! - It was like getting a new car! The engine was raised a good inch. Just to be thorough, I replaced the third (transmission) mount as well, but there was no further change. So I think that sometimes it's not really possible to tell until the darn thing is out - I couldn't see that the passenger side mount was bad until I had removed it.
After hearing about the experiences of other dieselers, I definitely did NOT want to put a heavy duty/high performance/stiffer in any way mount in. As far as I can tell, almost EVERYONE who has put a stiffer mount in a diesel car has regretted it immediately. So I just went with the OEM replacements, I believe they were all Febi brand. No regrets. Car is smoother than it has been in 15 years. I know some people replace the hydraulic mounts with solid mounts, but I figure the factory put them in for a reason, so I went with the original specs for all the mounts.
On my car ('92 Passat TD with AAZ) the front mount replacement is very easy, the passenger side rear mount moderately hard, and the transmission mount is a b*tch, unless you leave off one of the bracket bolts (like all the professionals do!).
Anyway, just a guess, but my money's on your rear passenger side mount being bad. Let us know how it goes...

ok, if you dented your shroud, the front mount is shot FOR SURE. and i bet the rear mount is on its way out too. my engine twisted right out of the front and rear mounts the last time i did a burn out in the rabbit.

I went with polyurethane all around and while I don't regret doing it I think next time I'll go heavy-duty. They're too big a pita to go with stockers as they fail quickly with a bit of hard driving.

The A1 chassis FEQ's I've ordered a set for three different cars now seem well made. Especially the big
pass side one, it looks identical to the expensive HD diesel one Tectonics sells for what that's worth.
But then again, A1 mounting systems all suck to one degree or another.
No help on the A2 side, been too long to comment.

I have heavy duty mounts all around. Not awful but more vibration than I would like. Next time I will go with all hydraulic mounts, even on my performance build. I like to be able to hear the radio without having to crank it til the speakers are buzzing against their grills.

I have had several failed control arm bushings on BMWs at the shop, All have been FEQ. All Chineses made. BMS all eat control arm bushings though.

That they do. I sell euro car parts for a living and have seen a lot of that. For the money though, on the A1 mounts anyway, and from design and feel in hand, they seem alright. Ask me again in six months and I'll be able to say for sure.
