FS: Mercedes 300D Turbo $800

1985 Mercedes Turbo Diesel

3 Litre OM617.952 5cyl diesel

722.4 Automatic Transmission

319,000 original kms - all highway kms.

Please read carefully, the description should answer most or all of your questions.

3 rd owner, have service history from previous owners.

Engine: Timing chain was done at 180k, Vacuum pump done at 290k, Oil changes regularly at 5000k intervals. Fuel filters done recently. Little blowby, not excessive. Coolant recently flushed. V belts all replaced. Rebuilt alternator installed. It will need engine mount replacements in the next 3 months.

Transmission: 4 speed ZF. Shifts in all gears. No slippage. Fluid recently changed with new filter. Currently I replaced a couple of vacuum tees, one of which, provides vacuum to the shift modulator. I ran out of the proper inner diameter restrictor connector, so there is more vacuum that is specified to the modulator. What this does is cause the shifts to be too soft - if left to shift automatically. The restrictor connector can be found for $5 from the dealer. I chose to shift manually, which I personally prefer as I can start in 1st gear and choose my own shift points. But in a nutshell - NO the transmission is NOT buggered...it does shift in all gears - just softly..

Suspension: New Gabriel Ultras installed all around. Great ride, firm. Balljoints are good. Steering linkage ok. Power steering box is starting to leak on the bottom seal. You can run Lucas stop leak for a while, but eventually it will need to be resealed.

Brakes: When I got the car, all 4 rotors were warped. I replaced all 4. Fronts are on their second set of pads (installed last month) and the rears are at 75% pad life left.

Body: Paint is ok, not great. Low sheen black. No visible rust. I sanded/ground/cut out all rot and replaced with metal. Car is solid.

A/C not working - compressor dead. It has been removed.

Needs new battery as existing battery does not hold it's charge when it gets cold out.

Still have bottom trim for doors, but it should be replaced. It was kind of knackered..

As to cold weather starts - as long as the battery is good, the engine fires up usually with one or two flashes of the glowplugs..

Interior is tan MB Tex and in good shape.Seat bottoms are all good - especially the drivers side. All power windows work. The vacuum door locks need to be replaced. Also the main door locks need servicing. Sunroof works. Power Antenna is gone. Car has really good heat.

Windshield has seen better days, 3 stone chips - could be filled. I would replace as the lower passenger corner of the windshield is looking like it's starting to delaminate. It is up to you to replace it or not.

Great highway cruiser. Do 120kph all day at 2900rpm and get good fuel mileage - for a 3800lb car! Lots of life left in this Berlin/Beruit Taxi! These engines are known to run 600,000+ kms.

I am being extremely honest in the description of the car. If you are looking for a mint car - then this is NOT it. If you are looking for a good driver, then this is it. Do a little work and she will run for years!

Car is sold as is, where is

Serious inquiries only please..
