NEED A TOW FROM MASSACHUSETTS TO HAMILTON ONTARIO
«

i am purchasing a car down in the states and for reasons i wont get into, it cant be driven here despite running/driving just fine.
i need a tow and my usual towing options wont work this time.
vehicle is a 1966 dub.
looking for someone local in ontario with a tow vehicle to drive down there with me, pick up uhaul dolley and come back with it. or, someone down in the states to go pick it up and bring it here.
i'm at the end of my rope trying to sort this out, hoping someone here might be able to lend a hand or know someone who can.
thanks for any help.

Perhaps instead of towing you could consider loading the vehicle onto the back of a tractor trailer (van trailer)as a part load.
There are many trucks from the Kitchener- Waterloo, Hamilton, Brantford area in Massachusetts every day.
All you need is a dock where could load the car and another one where you could unload it.
I would estimate it would cost you about $250-500. Any company that is looking for a back haul will probably be willing to do it especially if they have some other freight that will fill up the rest of the trailer. The trucking company will very likely assist you in getting all the proper customs paper work in place.
Any VW will easily fit into a 102" wide van trailer(the common standard) with lots of room on either side.
The key is that you need to use a contract carrier and not a common carrier.
Any tow vehicle will easily use about $200+ in fuel alone to make that trip.
If this idea seems workable to you let me know and I can give you a list of trucking companies that frequent that area.

Another option would be to rent a full size pickup truck.
It will cost you approx. what it would cost you to put the vehicle on the back of a tractor trailer.
Re. your other post on using your rabbit to tow a 3900# vehicle. unless you were just towing it a few hundred yards down the street I would very strongly recommend against it.
You would have several factions of state and provincial police(Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, Ontario) that would love to pull over someone doing something like that, not to mention the US DOT and our own MTO.
That's not your worst problem. No matter which way you go you have to come back thru the Adirondack mountains and the first small hill you get to will kill your car. If by chance you do make it over that one, you really will get killed at the bottom from not being able to slow down or control your vehicle because of a severe lack of brakes.
It's a disaster waiting to happen.
I think using a Tractor trailer is probably your best bet and you can relax knowing your vehicle will arrive safe and sound.

relax, i dont think he means to tow it home with a length or rope. no one would be that foolish.
if you put the front or rear of the thing you bought on a dow dolly, i bet you could handle it as long as there isnt any steep hills to climb, or descend.
my dad does that kind of stuff all the time in his rabbit truck. the other week he was towing this big emnpty box trailer and he had it floored for hours just trying to maintain speed. didnt hurt anything but the miles per gallon.

towing it with the rabbit would be about the stupidest thing i could do. agreed. i'm running out of options so i thought i'd throw it out there.
i called about renting a vehicle to tow with, and the milage cost alone will be as much as i can get it here for through a freight company.
i got a private message through this forum from a guy who is willing to do it... just need to work out details and price with him to see if its feasible. at this point, that is my best option.
if i can't get a tow vehicle, i will likely head down there in the rabbit this saturday, confirm vehicle-in-question's condition, pay, get the paperwork signed over... and head back empty-handed.
if i don't, i will seriously inconvenience the seller who has been accomodating thus far, and i will likely loose my chance at this one.

is there anyone down in massachusetts or connecticut that can go check out this vehicle for me? mostly i just want to confirm its address and that its condition matches the for sale ad. it looks like i will be wiring down the money to him sight-unseen... i'd much rather have someone unbiased go check it out before i do that.
thanks for all the replies and suggestions so far folks.
