Upon tinkering with my fuel pump settings..
having the most advance possible, and the fuel screw being as far in as possible while maintaining idle and no hang ups is not optimal for power.
I had my n/a timed at 1.05mm (0.041" for you Yanks) and had every pump setting (91 pump) adjusted so that the fuel screw was as far in as possible whilst still being driveable. So I had the residual fuel screw (throttle resting screw) way down so the throttle was almost resting on the part where that screw threads through.. Had the idle adjustment on the back of the pump jiggered with a zip tie to allow the idle to be dropped far more than was ever intended by this adjustment.. also almost bottoming it out. And then the fuel screw was a good 4-6 turns in from stock.
So I turned the timing wayyy down, to in between the stock settings for mk2 pumps of 0.92mm (0.036"). Backed the fuel screw out a good 1.5-2 turns and then turned the throttle stop screw way in to bring the idle back up. The result? I have power under 3000rpms again! The way I had it before was fantastic for everything above like 2750rpms.. any gear below that was horrendous, drop a gear and scream the *** out of it.
I dont have to majorly feather the throttle to start from a stop now.. the rpms dont drop as fast between shifts so i can double clutch it for my aging trans
only got 950,000kms on it.. just a baby RIGHT!? lol
Ugh.. Think I went back a bit to far on the retarding.. Runs sperb once warm but cold she's a ***. Were down to around 4-5C in the mornings now.. And oh boy.
I think I have 1 or 2 plugs out though.. So its not helping!
Raced my brother tonight.
Both cars 1984 jetta's originally 1.7 gassers. Converted em both to diesel last winter. His got a TD, mine got an NA. Last night we did a drag on a straight road, I held on until we hit 115km/h.
I was just shifting to 4th and he pulled in front screaming the *** out of 3rd.
It was awwesome too, because there was a group of teenage douchebags walking on the left side of the road.. the side both of our exhausts point too... Can you guess what we did?? LOL
It was after he pulled in front, so he pulled in front of me and we layed on the smoke as we screamed passed the group of now choking guys.. LMFAO
Needless to say, my n/a hauls ass.

when i first got my 84 rabbit, i kept it as n/a for a while, and it hauled ass pretty good too..
had a 3" intake, a header, a free flow muffler, cranked up fuel screw, and gov mod..
pretty much kept up with my 85 GTI..
i had an exhaust leak on the TDI so bad that soot was staying in most of the exhaust and muffler so i removed the cat and when it blew it all out it was amazing
Ive never seen that much smoke come from a car
You've never driven behind my brother and I
HAHAHA you would have to get infront of me in the first place
Bump..
smoked my clutch the other day.
its BAD now. super duper glazed for sure..
like, 5th gear, boost it up, and it slips bad when the LDA kicks on @ about 10psi..
clutch has less than 10k miles on it. still has writing visible on the lining.
wasnt being any harder on it than normal.. guess it just wasnt up to the task of holding the extra power to the ground..
clutch always hooked beautifully when i had a n/a pump top still, and only 13psi boost.. always used to be able to burn rubber when shifting 1-2, or 2-3...
anyone run a centerforce clutch? any good, bad, or otherwise feedback?
they make a dual friction clutch setup for VWs.. figured it should hold up fine, its an aftermarket upgrade over the stock clutch.
or should i stick with a clutchnet, or ACT, yadda yadda.. whatever everyone else is running?
are you running a 210mm sir
Stop being so OLD BRETT!! LOL!
How is the crack bunny doing? Still crackin around I hope! lol

was a brand new 200mm unit. came in the car. used to hook up damn good, almost as good as my 8v/16v clutch setup..

I'm gonna say it's damned near dead.. I tried to start it about a week ago and it was a no go.. Seemed to only fire on one cyl.. Could just be the glow plugs since I don't remember exactly how long ago I put those in, LONG before I welded the block I know.. I gave it a spray of NO NO juice and it did start and run okay..
I suspect there is compression leaking into the cooling system, and it's been loosing coolant at a fairly steady rate. Not absolutely sure since the expansion tank has been leaking near the top for some time.. Considering the block has 12 welded cracks, and it's been over heated well over a dozen times from mushy oil soaked hoses blowing apart I'm fairly sure it is...
Ultimately since it is now getting cold I'm no longer going to be able to just run straight water in it. And I'm not wasting the money on pouring antifreeze though it.. If time ever permits I think it's finally time to part with the cracked lump under the hood and drop in the new engine (that I've spent entirely too much on
)
Hmm crack bunny won't start on ether anymore.. I think my starter is about to crap among everything else.... Pulled it around and did finally get it running again.. Pretty sure I can hear external hissing from the HG when I was cranking it..

so, crack bunny has had an overdose basically?
