Glad to hear your back on line and ok.  It is like Florida dodged all those hurricanes untill last and this year.  When Fran hit here in 1996, what a mess so I know what your dealing with.

yes we were lucky for a while. it takes a few months to get back to normal and still you have to overlook the redesign on all of the landscaping.

incidentally, the only diesel available at the pumps is the off-road red dye fuel.

tell me about it. i just got my digital cable and internet back today!

spent about $240 in gasoline to run our 30hp v twin generator over the course of 8 days.

anyone seen those 24K watt generator heads for sale on ebay? im seriously thinking about buying one and mating it to a automatic vw flex plate so i can run it off a 1.6 diesel!
i hear that hurricanes in the south east are going to be a common thing for the next decade or 2.

Careful, those generators are 4 pole, 1800 rpm. A 1.6 diesel won't develop 24kw at that speed, you'd be pretty fortunate to see 15kw. It would work fine producing 15kw but it would be kind of a waste of a 24kw generator. VW diesels like to scream, most gensets that I've seen built out of VW diesels have been 2 pole units running at 3600rpm. At that speed they make lots of power, but you might want to mount them far away from your house, the noise would be bad. There were a bunch of VW powered units available surplus a while ago. The engine and generator were mounted vertically in an equipment locker. They were used for standby power for cell phone towers and such. There were 4cyl and 6cyl (2.4L) units available, both 3600rpm.

15K would be great. out current genny is 15K with a 22K surge, and it eats gas like a pig. and it runs at 3600 rpm so its pretty loud too.
