Does anyone have ideas for a heavier duty clutch for my 85 Jetta with a 1.9l TD engine and the stock ACH transmission from the 85?

To much torque for this clutch.

As a start, upgrading to a 210mm clutch would improve holding power. They used them in the 1.8 liter gas cars. All that you really need to upgrade besides the new clutch is a 210mm flywheel and new flywheel bolts. If you still want more holding power then there are many different upgrades out there for the 210mm clutch. Try ACT, Spec, Clutchnet, and Kennedy. Stay away from anything ceramic, sintered iron, or unsprung as they are probably nothing you want on your daily driver. I used a kennedy 6 puck unsprung disk on a gas turbo Rabbit and it ate through the flywheel and pressure plate in a few months time. I now run a spec stage 2 with a triple strapped pressure plate. The OE 210mm clutches worked fine for me up until about 200 ft/lbs. It might be a little less on a diesel though as it is likely that the torque peak is earlier which is harder on the clutch.
