Since it is mentioned in another place on the governor mod and not here, I thought I'd add that removing the intermediate spring can cause driveability problems. It is better to just shim the main spring and leave the intermediate alone. I can't find the post that talked about this, so it may have been deleted, so I wanted to repost it so people will know. Removing and shimming the intermediate spring makes it harder to keep the engine at a certain RPM when at lower RPM's. I have this problem with my vehicle since shimming the intermediate spring. Acceleration was much better however. Also, if you do decide to shim the intermediate spring, you may have to back out the residual fuel screw if your engine doesn't want to come back down to idle.

I too have just performed the GOV. mod by removing the intermediate spring and shiming the gap. Now I've noticed that at lower throttle positions the engine seems to want to rev on its own.
Is this what your talking about Jimfoo.
Sence doing the GOV. mod, the engine pulls harder and longer it to the RPM band (5000), but sustains RPM between shifts. Is that the draw back of doing the mod. Any feed back?

Yep, that's what I'm talking about. If you unscrew the residual fuel screw a little. it will probably help the rpm's come back down.

Jimfoo, my revs come down to 1000, but when under heavy throttle runs, the RPMs stay higher than before. The fuel (power) screw is only turned in 1/4 turn to the right. The smoke screw on top is turned in 3/4 turn to the right. Should I replace the intermediate spring and only shim the main? The max EGTs that I see is 1000 deg.

I made a fun video to show the governor spring in action.
I use a digital photo tach and I applied 2 reflective stripe to simulate the engine RPM.
You can see the idle spring fully compressed at very low rpm, intermadiate at med RPM, and the main at hight rpm.

Well isnt around 4 k the beginning of the defueling we are tryin to fix to get some top end power
I can def feel the governor in my car killing the fun.
