Vnt15 control solution wanted.
« on: October 24, 2005, 10:42:13 am »
Hi all.

I have a vw lupo 1.7 S SDI engine AKU. Ive got a New vnt15 here that i want to fit.  My quetion is has anyone come up with a control method for the vnt15 on a NA application?  Ive Read fspGTD vnt idi build post which was awesome.

My idea was to install a greddy profec boost controller and programme it to supply vacuum to vanes at say 6psi + and close vanes at 6psi -. What do you think?

The loop:

The turbo:

Allt he other bits and bobs will be pretty straight forward i reckon.

Also heres a seat arosa SDI that has been turbo'd:

My idea was to use a profec A because of the whole "fuzzy logic" thing. It ought to be able to anticipate the spikes and offer better control over boost pressure. Be sure to let us know how it works out though.  :D

So you think maybe the profec A would be worth a try ? I could get one for £150.  Would be a whole lot cheaper than going down the TDI ecu donation.

Could someone clarify the operation of the vanes plz. Ive tried to understand exactly what they are doing and when.  Whats put me out is why others have reversed the diaphragm.

My understanding is the vanes are in closed position so that its will spool at low rpm, then as rpm gets higher the vanes open.

Reversing the diaphram is done so the system works off of boost instead of vaccum, that way it is all mechanicall, but the boost controll is not as ideal in some regards (low boost at part throttle is hard to accomplish). No ecu or electronics of any sort are required.

Right full steam ahead. Ive got my girlfriends car til end of january, so now would be a good time to get this turbo'd.  Want to do it as cheap as possible obviously. lol.  Ive got lots of questions , cant think of one now. Heres the list of parts i need:

Tdi Oil filter housing. (this has the extra outlet to supply turbo)

Oil lines.

Tap my sump for turbo oil drain.

Intercooler. (found a cheap polo tdi IC, looks clean 25 quid)

Intercooler hoses. (any tips on working out what hoses i need)

Intake manifold. (any that fits a AKU, pretty sure i can go with a ALH or AHU)

Tdi Downpipe. (Could this be joined to my existing or not enough flow?)

Maybe custom cat back exhaust.

Any suggestions please
