Auto-Tragic Gearing
« on: January 14, 2010, 07:36:44 pm »
Are there different gears in the auto boxes that came in mk2's? Between gas and diesels?

I was just wondering, as I want to get a diesel engine in my gf's car. Currently she has a '90 1.8 8v digi 3spd auto w/200k. It will cruise at 100km/h at 3000rpm little high for a diesel I know.. Thats why i was wondering if there is a difference between the gearing of gas and diesel auto's

What are you guys thoughts. She doesn't want to do stick.. and i would say just get a diff car.. but this one is mint interior.. so i don't really want to get rid of it..

Whats the verdict  ;)

Looks like the final drive is the only thing that is different between any of the 010's..  I believe I've heard others say the same in the past..

The diesel automatic starter is a pretty rare item to find. Unless you have access to one already.
The mask and the shot(s) are actually an IQ test. If you are wearing or circulating, you just failed the test. I can't feel sorry for you.

IIRC the armature and fields are different in such that swapping the gasser nose on to the diesel starter is out of the question..  Reman starters for the auto trans are pretty available though..  Find a dumb parts guy that'll take the gasser one as a core..

i second this option... if she cant move her foot and work a stick at the same time, what good is she?

chicks that can drive sticks are usually better skilled in bed..

Use a passat auto with the 4 speed.

I'm pretty sure there are different ratios. I don't have my bentley with me right now though

I'm not even touching this one :P

Is the 4spd you speak of the 096 or the 01M trans?

Will it bolt up to a 1.6? and mk2 axles? or is there some modding needed to be done?

I don't know. It is electronic so you will need the ECU and throttle body (TPS). I would assume 096 but we know how that goes...
