1.9 AAZ Intake/Exhaust Valve question
« on: January 11, 2010, 07:55:27 pm »
I have a 1.9 AAZ engine that came out of a 1994 Golf. I'm rebuilding the enigine. My question is what Intake/Exhaust valve does this engine take? Is their more then one size valve for this engine?

There are two different stem sizes. Early versions had the 8mm stem and later ones had the 7mm stems. Smaller stems allow for more flow. You could go either way but get valve guides to match the stem diameter.

Anybody have part numbers? My parts guy is having trouble finding the right valve.  Thanks

The part numbers I have from the dealer are:

Intake # 028 109 601C
Exhaust # 028 109 611E

Them two number have different size stem dia. The Intake is 7mm and the exhaust is 8mm. The valves I took out of my head are both 8mm. The new valve guides I got are for 8mm valves. So I'm just wondering what the AAZ is suposed to have?

One other thing, my Bentley service manual has the AAZ valve spec as:

Intake Stem Dia. 7.97mm
Intake length 95.0mm

Exhaust Stem Dia. 7.95mm
Exhaust Length 95.0mm

I'm just real confused!!! ???

Try these (should both be 8mm but I'm not 100% sure, taken from vagcat):

Intake: 069109601F

Exhaust: 074109611

I'm pretty sure the part numbers you posted are both for the 7mm stems.

Your right on the Exhaust #074109611 that is a 8mm stem, 95.50mm length. I did get that one today.

I'll have to check on the that Intake #.
