Hi from Malta..........
« on: January 10, 2010, 12:17:02 pm »
Hi everybody, newbe here. Little intro.... I currently own a land rover series 3 with a twaeked tdi200 and a golf mk3 gtd, i also race a vw aircooled single seater offroad buggy. I am a gear head and do all my fab work and repairs on my vehicles. I hope you will all be patient with some questions i have. I have come accross this forum while on a quest to solve a problem with my latest purchace.

A 1996 golf mk3 GTD all original with freshly rebuilt aaz. It was an opportunity i could not refuse. The previous owner who got the aaz rebuilt had the pump rebuilt but when i got it it was way down on power. I started by appling the normal ve pump tweaks and now performance is quite good. I have encountered a new problem on the golf which i need to sort out. I think its the immobiliser, the vehicle just starts normally and i can drive, i then park it up and sometimes it just wont fire up again, the engine turns over but no starting, i wait a bit like 10 mins and it fires straight up!! Now this golf has a history from new regards the immobiliser (full service history) But this has been sorted many years ago by the dealer, it has now shown its ugly head again!

I searched and found that if i break up the black box on top of the ve pump i can bypass the immobiliser. Now question time, what is going wrong?? can i bypass the immobiliser that way?? is there a simple fix beside wrecking the black box thingy?? I need to solve this as i am expecting it to leave me stranded somewhere, with ensuing colourful language!!

While researching various other twaeks to the aaz i came accross this forum and it seems many mix and match bits between the ve pumps or even fit landy pumps to vw's which i found very interesting. Now my land rover has a tdi which runs the ve pump hence i have a common part between the 2 vehicles. The tdi has had the normal twaeks except i left the full power screw standard, as it already pulls well (egts on the limit). Now Would it be possible to modify the governer on the tdi to rev a bit more that the 3850rpm the pump is set at??would it be a safe thing to do? I am asking as i like the way the aaz revs up to 5000rpm effortlessly, i think the landy will be much better unless the small t25 turbo will restrict flow.

A couple of pics of my golf and the rest of the fleet.

Thanks for reading

Regards Patrick

Hello,

Yes you can smash that black box and then you`ll just have a regular stop solenoid there. The only thing I am not sure about is if you will have a wire to power the stop solenoid. We never got those immobilisers over here so I have no idea how they are wired on the vehicle side.

As for your TDI, is it a TDI or a mTDI?
