Best parts cleaner for Diesel
« on: January 04, 2010, 05:17:43 pm »
I’m looking for your recommendation on the best parts cleaner to soak diesel engine parts:
a)       for oil exposed parts
b)       for parts with hard carbon deposits like EGR lines and valves etc

From my own experience ZEP Purple degreaser is not good to soak aluminum parts – it actually corrodes the surface!!

theres lots of stuff that eats aluminum. i pretty much use either engine degreaser or simple green on aluminum. simple green is tits, get the engine just a tad bit warm, like 140-150* and spray it with simple green. then let it dry on the engine, spray again, then before this stuff dries, scrub a little bit and rinse off. keeps my 1.5 so clean i could eat off it.

I'm using a local oven cleaner, made from diluted lye, caution with this as it corrodes aluminium :(

I get them hot tanked, for the money you spend, and the time you save as well as not making a huge mess, to me it's well worth it.

I'm rebuilding a friend's engine, he used Purple Power and rinsed well all of the engine parts. I was impressed how clean the parts are.
