WTB: 1.6 td or na, 1.9 tdi with blown tbelt in MN
« on: January 02, 2010, 09:01:15 pm »
Hi,

I'm looking for a 1.6td, 1.6na, or a 1.9 tdi with blown timing belt (to turn into a 1.9 IDI).  I would prefer a short block without head.  Would be interested in a 1.6td in need of a rebuild, as well.

Let me know. ;)  Not looking to spend a lot; just looking for an engine to mess around with and replace my clapped out 1.6na that I put a little too much boost into.

What happened to your 1.6? Was the vnt too much for it?
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

It consumes more than 1qt of oil per 500 miles, and the bores have a ton of slop in them.  I'd rebuild it, but I figure a 11mm block isn't really worth rebuilding, as it seems like they have a long history of cracking. (although I do have ARP studs)

I don't think the vnt itself ruined it, but it definitely didn't help.  The previous owner ran super cheap oil and fram filters for the last 200k.
