Howdy Gang,
The backup light is staying on in our '85 Golf 5 speed n/a diesel.
I pulled the electrical connector off and looked at the contacts on the transaxle.
It is still unplugged so the back up lights are off while driving.
What should I expect if I pull the switch off with the two allen head bolts.
Is there anything I could do like cleaning the contacts or putting some lube on the mechanical parts of the switch.
I'd hate to have a spring or ball bearing go flying when I pull it apart.
thanks
hank
Disassembly is easy: take the two bolts out, and the switch comes off. Nothing inside to suprise you. When you get a new switch, run the output into a relay and power to the b/u lights from the relay, similar to a set of driving lights. That way you won't waste the pricey tranny switch NEARLY as fast.
Nothing goes boing when you take it out.
Since yours are staying on some penetrating oil may free it up. Usually they are not serviceable
