• Hello Folks,
  
  I got a relay off a part co. and it doesn't look the same as my old one, below is a pic of the, side by side
  
  
  
  The old one is the all black one. They are almost the same, the new one has bigger blades and is missing a connector in the bottom corner of that pic. The new one is a topran, Germany glowing relay 102 931 PA66-GF30. The old is the Hella 12v 191 919 481 5da 006 023-03.
  
  
  So, should I modify the big blades to fit the connector block or should I send it back?
  
  The old one has a real bad electrical burn smell to it

• OK, just spotted the numbers next to each pin and they are completely wrong compared to the original. Only 1 is correct and that is the 50 in the bottom right corner.

• looks like that timer you pulled out is out of a super early mk1 car. and it looks like the new one is for a a late mk1/2

• That's odd, because it's a MK2 1991 1.6TD SB engine with CE2 wiring (emergency lights on steering column)

• Yeah, glowplug relays don't have the small blades.
   The one with the bigger blades should fit your relay plug.
   See if the plug is set up for the bigger blades,.. even my old (oldest I've messed with is '79) ones are.

  Yep. The small bladed one is for up to 1980. Then new one is for 81-92.

  thats what i thought, i messed with a 78 once, and it had those small blades. all my diesel cars are 81 or newer, so they all have the fat bladed timers.

• they all do, it looks like you actually pulled the wiper relay out of whatever you are working on, the wiper relay is taller than the GP relay/timer.

• Yup, I was just thinking that looks more like a wiper relay than a glow plug relay.

  ETKA lists the glow plug relay for an SB engine as being a 191 911 261A or 191 911 216C... perhaps those part numbers will help your supplier find you the appropriate part.... pretty sure what you've got from them won't work for ya.

• well, i had a wiper relay and a GP timer laying side by side on my bed side table, and it looked just like the picture he posted up of the relays sitting next to each other. im thinking his wipers probably dont self park right now.

• Just my opinion: you've simply got the wrong part.. send it back and get the right one.... using the OEM part numbers listed above.  If that supplier tells you they've sent you the right part find a different supplier.

• I'm sure it won't be a problem getting the right part now I can confirm it is the wrong part 
  Having done a lot of searching it seems most of the guys on here have GP Relays like my new one.
  
  I find it strange that VW have various GP relays for the same/similar year/model of car.

  Did you ever get a replacement for the GP relay.
