I HAVE HEAT!!!!!.....kinda
« on: December 19, 2009, 02:01:34 am »
I hope this helps make someones life easier.

When I first got my bunny the heater sorta worked....and then the heater core sprang a leak. I ripped it apart and it was full of goo and nasty stuff anyways.

So I bought a new one and strangely the heat didn't work very good. Driving to wisconsin in January wasn't fun.

Here's a pic of a core, it lays flat, and the coolant goes in the inlet travels across the top (or bottom) half then turns around and comes back and exits:

After much deliberation (and by shining a light in one hole and being able to see light in the other hole) I concluded that the coolant was short cutting past the divider who's job it is too make sure the coolant goes to the other end before coming back and exiting.

After studying it closer I could see a 1/8th inch gap letting the coolant shortcut inside it.

I complained (to my uncle the parts guy ::)) and he sent me another one of the same brand and that didn't fix the problem ::).

That brand was thermex (junk).
Long (loooong) story short I splurged and bought a VEMO (german) heater core last week and it has mostly fixed the coldness, I can see that there isn't the gap anymore................it's so nice to have warm feet!!!! rather than all the "heat" having to go to the windshield.

My electric add on water pump (helps pump through the heater circuit) makes it have more heat making me think the water pump isn't doing it's job good enough, so next thing is to get rid of my stamped impellered water pump and put the cast GEBU pump on. ;D

I can post pics of my tore apart heater core (next week) if anyone wants so it makes more sense ;D
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
