Just had to happen tonight didn't it?
« on: December 16, 2009, 05:16:11 pm »
I get in to my car after work.. start it up and get out to brush off the foot that fell while I was at work.

get back in to the car to find out i couldn't honk my horn at a passing co-worker.. and my blower wasn't blowing.. I don't think i used the wipers to see if it was that whole circuit that gets power only when the key is on or not.. However the light for the rear defroster heater was on.. and its only on when the key is on right?

so needless to say, i got my hat and mitts on and proceeded the drive home with the windows down to minimize window foggage... the little heat that made its way through from me driving through town defrosted the bottom of the window.. so i could at least see a little bit lol.

car started fine, and you can hear the relay's click on when you turn the key on and off.. whats up do you think?

I like to get the stupid questions out of the way first.  :D Did you check the fuses? Did the blower work on any of the settings?

I think you car called in sick and forgot to tell you.

Check to make sure that the connections on the back of the switches didn't rattle loose

x-relay?
 AKA load reduction relay.
I don't think the rear defroster is hooked up to that.

I didn't have a chance to check the fuses.. it was cold out lol. The blower did not work on any setting. the horn did not work. but the rear defroster worked i think.. the light in the switch came on, cant recall if the window lines actually did anything to the window or not.. was more focused on keeping the front one clear to see lol.

and when i got home.. i was just not wanting to get down in the snow.. ill check tomorrow morning i guess.. its too late now to be running my car (cherry bomb pisses the neighbors off lol)

My Rabbit would do stuff like that to remind me to dump the water out of the relays under the dash.

went outside and checked it out in the beautiful sunlight we have today. Blue skies! and minues 20c! I LOVE IT.. damn it was cold though lol.

ooh anohther thing that was whack last night.. my after market tach.. was having a seizure at 0rpm's.. today it worked fine and so did my wipers and horn... checked the blower fuse.. melted to bits.. replaced it and tried the fan on and off real quick.. as it obviously blew the fuse for a reason. could hear it trying to turn and dropping the rpms as though i just introduced a load the alt.. so i thought to myself... could it be frozen?! broke out the heater and layed it in the rain tray for about 15minutes.. VOILA, working blower motor.. weird about the horn and tach though.. what do you think is up there?

Horn is on the same circuit as your rad fan.   Heater issue sounds like one I had/have.   Water leaks into the blower housing, freezes and prevents the blower from spinning as you would wish.   I found that pulling the foam surround around the base of the blower off allowed water to drain out enough that the problem didn't return.   Obviously the correct fix is to stop the leak but I'll get to that later.
