well today i went into the vw dealership in alliston on my way home from work in toronto its about an hour and a bit drive. I had to order the rest of the parts i need to do my headgasket job, just little stuff other than the actuall headgasket itself ( ive just been buying parts and accumulating them for a while now) now that dealership is not my normal one that i deal with but i have dealt with them in the past. So i walk in its about 20 after 4, and they close at 5 so i go up to the parts counter im the only one customer in the building at this point. the parts guy is at the counter, not exactly too busy he was reading the local paper, very deeply to as i stood there for about 5 min waiting to be served. after he noticed me i managed to say " hi hows it goin, ive just got a few parts to order" he then proceeded to cut me off and say just wait a minute. He went back into his little room behind his counter, stayed in there for about 5 min themn cam out and very bluntly told me " i dont have the time to serve you, ive got customers to look after, and people on the phone". well that kinda pissed me off, you mean to tell me that i drove all the way from work, in toronto to here to watch you read a news paper, then bugger off somehere, just to tell me youve not got the time to look after me and im the only customer in the building?!?!?!?! and to top it off i really wanted to have my parts to fix my car this weeked, now i wont have them till wednesday, because of 2 day shipping ugh. needless to say that is one vw dealership that wont get my buisness.

Customer service like that is not on, vote with your feet and dont go back despite how much you might need the parts.

You could order the parts from us at Performance Diesel. We usually can get everything same day.
I would have asked to speak to the owner, or the parts manager. Actually... I probably just would have walked out and bashed them on the internet much like you did.
I don't understand how any company with service like that can stay in business.

Some dealerships are OK, others much like your experience. I tried complaining through the VW.ca web site and they don't seem to care either. Cambridge VW is garbage at times. I had one guy tell me he couldn't be bothered looking up a part "for such an old car". On the other hand Guelph VW has always treated me just as well as the customers with much newer models, so no complaints there.

The last time I got tires for my GTI was kinda the same. They didn't want to do it, then I told them it was 2, I would take the old tires, and they were off the car. 64.00 mounted and balanced...I got the bill and they charged an 8.00 shop fee. When I asked what for she said wheel weights. I asked how in the world do you balance a tire without wheel weights unless it is perfect without anything. She said she didn't know. I got most of the fee off, but I had to fight for it.

I have a good relationship at my local dealership with two of the parts guys. The parts manager and I are water and burning oil.
I got quoted ~$125 for a crapton of little bushings and bits for my old B-platform cars. I went in to make the order, had to deal with the service manager. Somehow my $125 quote ballooned to $500+... and he gave me a nasty look for giving him part numbers to look up. Said I "wasn't supposed to have those."
It was a serious case of "dude, the part numbers are
right there on the invoice. They aren't national secrets!" He also refused to look up the part number for some DPR o-rings. Said they "weren't in the system" and wouldn't even show me an ETKA page of the system so I could point out exactly which parts I needed.
What a short-jerked wad.

I can feel for you. It's happened to me, but I didn't get mad, I got even. I crafted a scathing letter to VW Canada and to the dealership's owner. The guy was fired, as he should be.

i kindly remind them that they are standing behind that counter getting PAID to help me and sell me parts. and most of the parts stores around here, i know the owners or managers or something, and if someone pisses me off, i either wont go back, or i will talk to their boss, or on more occasions that one, do both. the one place i usually spend my money (North Coast Truck Parts) has great service, and they actually like it better when i come in with part numbers, because then they dont have to look it up, just pick up the phone and make a call. usually get stuff for just a box hair above cost too.
