proper oil pressure, 1.6 n/a, mechanical lifter head

At idle, hot, what should I see for pressure off of the port on the head?
My 'wonderful' dynamic warning system is crapping out on me, so I got a 150psi VDO gauge on the head port right now. I am seeing ~15-20 psi at idle after a 40 minute drive at freeway speeds. Am I ok?

The minimum is 29 psi at 2000 RPM with the engine at temp.. 15-20 psi at hot idle doesn't sound terrible to me... Is it mechanical or hydro lifters???

check the thread title :p Mechanical. No tach, so I really have no clue where 2k rpm would be, but from discussions with a few people, doesn't seem like things are too far off.

I think you're good, my mechanical engine has 25psi @ 2000rpm and get's down to 10-13psi @ idle after a hard drive. Gotta look into that one of these days.

Hmm yea, I guess reading the title would help..
Since the oil pressure and RPM coincide... Figuring that 29 PSI at 2K rpm is the min spec then at say 800 rpm 11.6 psi would be the minimum..
I just had my abomination out for a ride, it's carrying about the same as you have at hot idle... You're fine... There's a hydro lifter car floating around here that doesn't have more than about 8psi at idle, 25psi max and it's still clattering about...

i have maybe ten psi at hot idle. and about 60 or 70 cruisin down the road. when i fire it up cold tho, it hits 100 psi easy on the gauge.

I actually had a mechanical gauge on there yesterday morning, installed it the night before, but the engine wasn't completely cold. When I fired up cold in the morning, the gauge pegged, and ruined it. Had a max psi on the gauge of 100, but the needle went around till it was resting against the side of the gauge housing, I'm assuming it bent the spring, cause now the lowest it reads is ~25psi, and that's with the gauge disconnected

I had a mech gauge blow apart from that.
My carpet will never be the same again....

is there an oil pressure port on the 4/3? i need to know so that i can add a temp gauge. the other thing i was thinkin is if the only one is in use by the pressure sending unit i would add a t fitting there and run the temp off of one side and the pressure off of the other. would this be ok? would i still get an accurate reading from both?

you need your oil temp sender to be exposed to a moving stream of oil. like down at the filter flange. pretty sure thats where the temp sensors are from the factory. and also, about people blowing gauges apart, mines electric, so no harm can come to my gauge. but my sending unit is holding up beautifully also.

Yeah! Learned that one the hard way.. The new gauge is electric.. I have a permanant black stain to remind me why...
