IP rebuild
« on: December 10, 2009, 03:11:40 pm »
I am going to attempt to rebuild and reseal my IP on my 84 VW rabbit.  I have a couple of questions for anyone who has done this.

1) Do I need to remove the IP pulley?
2) If so, are the shaft and pulley keyed so it can only go back one way?
3) I am curious and confused at the same time because if it isn't, how does one know that their IP is in the correct
position timed before they even bolt it back up?
4) P.S., I know you would time it with the dial indicator, but is the pulley and shaft similar to the camshaft, where you
can loosen the camshaft bolt and spin the pulley and the camshaft will stay in place?
5) I want to replace some items inside the IP, what are the key items to replace due to wear and tear?

Thank You!

5 my kit came with all copper washers, all the rubber bits but the input seal, and the only other part that looked like it could use replaced was the  housing.
