engine codes
« on: October 14, 2005, 01:43:08 am »
I must admit that I am a total newby to VW diesels, and to the forum, but here it goes...I bought a 1981 Caddy with newly installed crated 1.9 motor out of Canada.

Where can I get codes to tell me what the motor is ?? Eco, IDI etc....What stock vehicles did these motors apply to (ie.years and models), so when I need to get parts, which vehicle do I reference?

Thanks for any advice

Yeah it's likey an AAZ, which is an IDI engine.  Unfortunately you won't find any US cars with that engine since it was only available in Canada.  Maybe you're near the border and could find parts in BC.  As mentioned, Golfs, Jettas, Passats came with this engine from '93-'98 I think.  They brought in the TDi in '96 on the Passat.

Thank you all .....I will check it out further.  There is no turbo on the engine, but it looks like it is set up for one.  I would like to install one later.

Hey post up some pictures of your engine bay and let us know the engine code, if it is an AAZ and has a turbo pump than you are a good candidate for some turboing! If you need either bolt on or custom modifcations I run a shop just across the border in Canada specializing in turbo diesel modifications. Also do lots of searchign on this site, there is tons of awesome information!

Does anyone have a listing of the engine codes that were available for the 1.5/1.6 Diesel engines ??

Moved to General.  Not IDI engine / power enhancement related.
