So I finally got around to putting the rotating assembly back together on my AAZ and the ARP connecting rod bolts I ordered do not fit.

The ARP part# is 104-6002 and it says VW water-cooled rabbit rod bolt kit on the package.
The issue is that I would have to drill larger holes in the rods to get these to fit.
So, where can I get stock stretch bolts? cause I haven't found them at my usual parts suppliers.
Does ARP make just a plain bolt for this application? Does anyone have a part# for that?
my build is at a standstill until I get this sorted so any help would be greatly appreciated
If it is the same ones that I got for the 1.6 then I understand your pain. It says press in and they mean it. I tried myself and couldn't do it on the vice so I took the rods back to the engine shop and had him press them in. I forget what it took but it was quite a bit more psi than I would have imagined. He told me I could have hammered them in, but ARP says specifically NOT to do that.
Don't forget that you are supposed to have your rods resized when the new studs are pressed in as well.
maybe I am a little unclear as to what has to be done, but they appear to be totally different.
my stock bolts thread into the connecting rod itself, no nut. That is the rod is threaded and there is no way these things are being pressed in there. Also they do not appear to have enough room to allow the head of the stud to seat either.
the ARP has a separate stud and nut and seems to be a completely different design.
maybe I can grab some pics if it would help.
I already have it put together with the old bolts snug. I was just hoping to get new ones and replace them. I was not expecting to have to get the rods machined, or to have to tear down the bottom end again. Is this unavoidable?
at this point I think it might be easiest to just grab some more stock stretch bolts. does anyone have the part# or specs for them?
mine go through the rod and then stick into the rod cap and have nuts and washers on them just like normal ones. i know what you mean when you were describint yours, but have never seen them like that.
I have two sets of AAZ rods that are like his.
all the 1.6 rods I have seen are the kind with the stud in the rod body and a nut though.
sounds like you got the wrong bolts, give ARP a call and confirm the part number with them.

ah, so the rods for the AAZ and the 1.6 are different. I used the 1.6# for the ARPs that is listed in the general section on here assuming/hoping that they were the same. I guess we just confirmed that they are not. I have emailed ARP, but no response. I guess I'll call and be the squeaky wheel. If I get a good number I'll be sure to post it on the thread where I got the 1.6's #'s. The head studs and main studs appear seem to be fitting just fine btw. Anybody want some ARP con-rod bolts for their 1.6?
how much do you want for them?
So ARP wrote me back, they do not have a part# on hand for the AAZ, and they are going to need to know the specs on the bolt, length thread pitch, diameter...
I'll see if I can figure that out.
Owen, you have a PM
here is what I measured
bolt is an M8 it is 43mm long (I guess it is a 45)
the threaded portion is 32mm long
the pitch is 1.0 mm
and the head is a 12pt 10mm
I sent this info to ARP, so hopefully I will get a #. fingers crossed
the length of the threaded portion is weird, because the rod cap is like 27 mm deep at that point so 15 or 16 mm is all that is going to thread in anyway
the ALH con rod bolts are M8x1x45 and are threaded just at the end. I think they will work if I don't hear back from ARP tomorrow I'm gonna try them.
