Sorry guys, this is a gasser question

I saw a vid on youtube showing a mk4 2.0 8V that broke the timing belt and supposedly it bent the valves, so I started wondering what vdub engines really are interference engines.

I think I know that all the early 1.5 1.6 1.7 1.8 8V gassers aren't, maybe even the early 2.0 8V.

The 1.8 and 2.0 16V's are interference right?

What about the mk3 and mk4 2.0L 8V? For this one I searched the web and found many differing opinions but it appeared like people were posting without a clue.

I know the 1.8T will smash valves.

What about the V6's, 2.7T, 2.8 12 and 30 valve?

I'm pretty sure the VR6's all interfere.

And I don't need to hear about the diesel's ;D

Sorry for the weird question I just got curious and had to know and this is the place to go since most of you have delt with gasser dubs too. Thanks
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

My friend Troy said that he doesn't ever want to break a TB in his 1.8. He has a rediculous cam in it and said if the TB slips/breaks it will be bad for him. So I guess it depends since there are a lot of cams out there for the gassers and not so many for the diesels, some gassers could become interference fit. His 80 Rabbit also does somewhere in the 12 second 1/4 mile so his cam may be a little more nuts than most.

Thanks that's a perdy good list ;D. Is the 2.1L and 2.2L 5 cylinders then? I thought for sure the 1.8L wasn't interference but what do I know ::)

I'll bet the 2.1L refers to the Wasserboxer flat 4 in the Vanagon. No belt... watercooled Beetle motor, basically. Produced up through '92.
