Newbie JX questions
« on: November 19, 2009, 06:14:56 am »
So i recently bought a caravelle coach 1.6TD. Now I want a little more power, but after reading around in here I have more questions than answers. I know it is not the original engine, but it's suposed to be a JX out of another caravelle.

1. First and foremost I don't seem to have the thingy with the smoke screw and the boost pin???

2. The fuel screw is almost impossible to reach with any kind of tool, is the a special trick or tool for it?

3. I can't seem to find were the wastegate is located?

I'll post some pic's to illustrate later when i get my camera to cooperate.

I red that thread yesterday, but now I can't find it. I'm posting on a few other forums as well, but most people seem to drop in an aaz insted of messing with the JX so I'm not to optimistic on those.

Anyways, this is the engine:

Anyone care to point out the smoke screw? What is that round thing on the manifold (seen between the head and the air filter ), looks like there is a connector for a wire on it?

These are the screws:

how the heck do I access them? they are crammed in between so much stuff that i cant find anything that will fit!

The exhaust:

Looks like 2"-2.5" or thereabout but the muffler looks like a stock one modified for the bigger pipe?

It's the one farthest to the left with the collar on it.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Yes the max fuel screw, it's the one closest to the stop solenoid.

I have one of these on my van. The "round thing between the head and the air filter" is a blow-off valve on the manifold. It does have a wire connector on it but you can just disable it with a bolt of the appropriate length. More details on various threads here. And yes, the adjusters are a pain in the arse to get too.
