oops
« on: November 17, 2009, 02:35:11 pm »
Hello all i am new to the diesel community but have oned a few MK1s. so i just aquired a 1.6d with a leaky injector pump and deciced to re seal the front and rear. after doing so i had to fo course retime everything and have all the tools and bentely to help me along. got it all back together and needed to adjust the IP timing. well long story short my socket wrench left my 13mm socket in the IP gear and it skipped some teeth on the timing belt. I need to know if the starter has enough power to do damage to the valvels are should i just repeat the timing method (now including a screwdriver in the injector hole so i can find #1 TDC). The skipping death was done on start up and it probably only scranked a couple of times but it for sure stoped the pistons :( poor little guy. thanks for any info

I am sure you will get other opinions, but I would think if you reset the belt and THIS TIME spun the engine by hand a few times without any interference and then cranked it and did a compression test you might have a better idea if you bent some valves.  Especially if you knew what your numbers were before the incident.

yeah, maybe the crank/cam timing stayed the same and the pump went out of time.
Set it right,, and feel for compression when you turn it by hand.

yup that's what I was thinking, maybe the pump is the one that slipped.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Now you need to use the dial indicator on the IP and it should get back to normal.
