Hi Guys, pretty good with the 1.9 xud engines, but this one's baffled me. Probably because is got sensors.
Anyway, i have a customers car at the workshop, it's ready for an mot BUT...
If you rev it over 4k, it'll either drop down and stall or it'll run rough. Plenty of white smoke (i know this is fuelling / timing issue), wont go away on it's own. A restart will sort it, but obviously this isn't good for an MOT!
Is there a common fault as such? Or should i just limit the throttle to 3.5k? The car is a Mk3 golf estate, 1995, 34k only.
I recalls reading something about a sensor to do with ... exhaust? maybe? ... malfunctioning or ... a valve being stuck open somewhere or something and it would cause weird output from the ECU to "counter" what the sensor is telling it rendering the engine, for the most part, useless. Restarting the car implies that it is a sensor/ecu problem because restarting the car is just like restarting your computer when it crashes.
I know that's incredibly vague but maybe it's a start?
Yeah, that helps.
I'm starting to lean towards the electrical side of things. Just trying to find out what everything does on the pump and what happens if any of it goes wrong.
There's also a ticking noise coming from some form of solenoid near the fuel filter.
i guarantee its an electrical problem. No question about that.
