Need a new radiator. Not finding much anything the same size offered so far. A lot of sketchy details and half ass application listings is what i find most of. Like one size fits all. Just buy it from us, and hurry it up.

Couple sources have told me to get them the VW part number for the application. Will the number be on radiator ? And where located ?

Approx measures are 26-1/8" across
Just the core - is about 22-1/2" across
12-3/4" tall
1-5/8" thick

2 core ?
3 core ?

Anyone have a good price source / supplier ?

Thank you Macka.  :)

All of those are too small, but it inspired me some more to keep browsing the web further. Found the right size/application/VW part number on autohaus-az

http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=uca3y345g5jl2z45cejynjnr&makeid=800026@VW&modelid=1367737@RABBIT%20PICKUP%20&year=1981&cid=16@Cooling%20System&gid=2172@Radiator

VW# 171 121 253 CL
568mm core (22.36 inches)
Retails $318 USD - their price $145
Its a top brand though ... Modine

Holy *** ! lmao
I started out hoping the $30 rad from prothe was my ticket.
Things have changed a little now. ugghh

I'm pretty sure this is a 3 core unit. fwiw

Mine put out a small trace of steam through the grille the other day when i let it sit, running the engine for a while at various speeds checking various things (without a fan). Only time i have seen it do that.

Couldn't find source of steam. But thought i should probably go ahead and start looking for a new one before i drive way up into the cold of Canada soon. About 800 miles North of here. brrrr

It has VW-Audi logo on top passenger side, and date code on top driver side. But can't see a part number (still in truck) on the sides or anywhere.

On to more internet searches in hopes of better price i guess ....

$145 is not a bad price. I buy a lot of parts for my business, and that is not far off of what I pay. VW list on the part number you mentioned is $318.35.

That is true Dennis. Especially being Modine brand.
And it includes free shipping.

Found some others as low as 105-110, but not Modine.
And not free shipping.

The $30 starting point really ruined me i think. lol

My local CarQuest in Asheboro, NC does WorldPac parts.
The regional WorldPac supplier to them is in Raleigh, NC.

They have the right size radiator on WorldPac and its same pic as the Modine pic on Autohaus-AZ.

Their (carquest) cost is $90.
They have done me 'pretty right' before.
But not this time. Fuggr wants to stick on the $209 "wholesale price" even when we're both looking at the $90 cost on his screen, and i pointed it out.

Might go back in a day or two - during their 1st shift - and grab a different counterman.

Using 84 Jetta TD with A/C as application seems to work better - almost everytime - when trying to find a Rad with these particular specs.

Hmmm. I am not a Carquest but my Wolrldpac price is 143.00. Gonna have to speak to my sales rep about that. However, Carquest does own Worldpac now. I am going to call a different vendor, and check price, and brand, but they charge shipping where as Worldpac does not.

Thanks GB.

I got with the manager last week at Carquest and they have been doing me real good on WorldPac stuff now. Getting lots of goodies through them. Its just like having Autohaus-AZ, in NC. lol

568-570mm is biggest that will fit between the alternator and driver headlight on Truck with a/c and factory accessory arrangement. And by my luck, its also the most expensive one of them all. But its a quality Modine unit and looks nice. Got it last week. $120

All new hoses throughout, clamps, senders, fan switch, exp tank with a level sensor add on, ... etc ...

But my clamps are coming from GermanAutoParts.com

$120 is still a decent price for a radiator, and a Modine yet....   I must say I've been pretty tickled with carquest myself..   THe local one finally reopened after being bought out by local compeditors....   It helps too that the owner is an amazing parts guy...    "Hey Glen, I need a gas tank for a 75 Volvo wagon!"  and a week later I had it..

Regarding VW part numbers, go to www.vagcat.com.  Once you sign in, you can look up most numbers.  It's not 100% effective - I've had some things that weren't entirely clear, but it's a good resource.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone know of a good big rad with a filler neck? I need to get rid of the stupid expansion tank.
