Exhaust smell in car
« on: October 30, 2009, 10:04:10 pm »
Hey all,   I have 91 eco diesel jetta.  I have smelled on a fairly often basis exhaust in the car.  So the other day I opened the hood, revved it over and seen smoke around the turbo to down pipe.  I replaced the round gasket and clips.  Now when I am in the car and idleing at a light, I rev it over and after a few seconds I can smell exhaust in the car.  (probably coming in through the blower motor and into the car)  Where is my leak coming from or is this normal.  The rest of the exhaust looks good.  Where does this car get it source of air to go into the car from the outside?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I need it fixed ASAP.

Thx

Check the entire exhaust for holes. Physically feel down the pipe to find them. I kept smelling exhaust in my car for a while and thought that my "toilet bowl" wasn't sealing properly. Ended up changing the seal twice before finding a hole right below it.

Here was where mine was. Hard to find. You can just bearly see it on the bottom there, but if you look at the diesel soot it's kind of a give away.
