Trouble with 1.6 TURBODIESEL
« on: October 12, 2005, 06:43:01 am »
Did anyone have this kind of problem and what is the solution?

The 1.6 liter TURBODIESEL engine iin my 1992 Jetta starts excellent.
15-20  seconds later it doesnt hold idle, shakes violently and can be kept running at middle range speed only. It expells a lot of white and bluish smoke with strong diesel smell. Some time ago it was enough to run the engine in this mode a few minutes and the smoking would disappear together with clicking noise coming or from the pump or from the engine top.
Even warmed up the engine occasionally shakes indicating missing.

About a month ago without any intrusion by anybody, the engine started to run perfect from start on. Now the trouble did return and the engine does smoke at all times. The car still can go 70-75 miles per hour, but some time after start power loss can be felt.

What this engine behavior points to? Any suggestions.

Get it timed properly.. check and replace air/dieselfilter and use a dieselinjectorcledaner like Forté directly in the filter to clean out the injectors (could be one dirty/leaking)
