I never found the answer to this question either, in theory yes, but I'll let you know for sure in 2 days when marks engine either works or doesn't.

as long as block is Hyd !  and 1.9 head is IDI (not TDI)

I use 1.6 IDI TD HYD heads on my IDI 1.9's  (1.9 exhaust portts are "D", and I have 'O' manifolds)

any problems with this set up so far?  I have a rebuilt 1.9 head that I am planning on installing on a 1.6 TD hydraulic block.  Going to be a spring project once the weather warms up.

No this setup is awesome no issues, although unless youa re runnign crazy amounts of fuel and plan on running 35 psi plus I would say its completely unecessary.

RE: completely unnecessary:  I have the 1.9 head, got it super cheap and it is rebuilt.  Spent months looking for a cheap rebuilt 1.6 head and couldn't find one.  So I'm going to bolt this thing on and see if it works.  If it doesn't I can always sell it and keep looking for a rebuilt 1.6TD head.

-regarding your 1.9/1.6 motor that you built, how is it with idling, does it idle evenly?
-does it have any weird characteristics, ie any misses or rpm areas where there isn't any power?
-did you have any problems with extra holes in the headgasket or on the head that weren't on your block?

Its unecessary but thats fine it will work awesome. I've done 2 of these now and will liekly being doing another fairly shortly. If its a stock rebuilt head goignon an unmodified bottom end you won't have any issues. No funny idle or anything. The coolant holes that the block doesn;t have but the head and gasket do cause no problems. And if you don't have power in an area its because somehting is worng with your IP, fuel is power.
