I need the 4 long swing clips that lock down the plastic air box cover to the housing. This is for my 1985 Westy Golf. Evidently these clips are unique to the 1985 diesel models.
Anyone have them?
the ones that look like the timing belt cover clips? Or the solid ones?

They aren't like the timing belt cover spring clips. The ones I'm looking for are about 4 inches long and have two parts: the fixed straight piece and the locking swing arm.
go get some bungee cords. they don't look pretty, but they are much more practical than those annoying clips.
Dakotakid used to have some, but I don't know if he does now. I used zip ties, or cable ties if you want to be specific, until I got them from him.
No, no extras anymore. They are all employed in my "rattletraps!"
The '86's use these, too.
You can use two or so very long, traditional hose clamps all the way around the air box. Just don't tighten so hard that you crack the plastic cover.
Brian from Purcell, Oklahoma (on "the Samba" web site under "watercooled-classifieds) could probably hook you up with some for a price. He deals in a lot of VW diesel stuff and I have found the guy to be very quick, honest and simply a nice guy.
I really prefer the later N/A (more vertically oriented) air boxes much more. They only have 4 smaller clips and keep the lid much tighter. I think these were in the '88 to '92's. But, you need the bottom and top of the box to make it happen.
I think I have 1 if that helps any....
