Leaky injector pump, after new seals??
« on: October 22, 2009, 11:13:32 am »
1994 AAZ. The pump was leaking fuel from somewhere around the cold start lever actuator on the inboard side (between the pump and the block) or so i thought. I removed the pump capped the lines and cleaned it up, got a seal kit and went to work. Changed out the seals for the cold start covers and the seal on the actuator shaft. Put everything back together, and set the pump in a box on a bunch of dry rags and went to sleep for the night......got up in the morning and the rags are wet with fuel ??? all caps are on, bolts are tight but its leaking from somewhere around the bottom still....... I just sprayed it down with brake cleaner and set it on a nice white level surace and plan on checking it periodically to see if i can track this leak. Anyone ever have a sneaky leak like this before?

Found the problem, the roller bearing inside the cold start actuacting assembly is shot. I went to a local diesel pump shop and they gave a used cover/arm/ assembly for $10  ;D

They had never seen one wear out like that before, must be quite a poor bearing.....it's under no load or pressure other then the cold start handle cable ::)
