96' Golf 1.9 TD


My car seems to be revving high. When I start the car with the choke lever in it won't start but when I pull it out it starts up. After the car warms up I push the choke in but the rpm's stay the same. Doesn't seem like anything changes. In my last car (95' golf) the rpm's would go down after pushing in the choke lever.
I adjusted my old car with the idle adjust but can't seem to find it on this car. Is it missing or is it a different design? How do I adjust it?  I'm baffled!

I can see from that picture that your pump is from an AC car. The choke or cold start advance does not control the fast idle on that pump. Instead the vacuum pod that is on the drivers side of the LDA increases the idle. It does this for cold starts and also when the AC is on.

There is a nut and stud that the lever that the vacuum pod is attached to that adjusts the idle. It's just hidden behind the return line in your picture. Depending on if you want to increase the fast or low idle depends on what screw you turn. The one on the drivers side is low idle and the one on the passangers side is fast idle.

Thanks for the replies and the pics!....how do I go about testing or finding out if that pod is actually working?

Start the car, go out to the engine bay and look to see what stop the lever is resting against, pull the vacuum line off the pod and the lever should be on the other stop now.

Or, start the car and then manual operate the lever. If the idle increases while the car is still cold, then the pod is probably not working correctly.
