mTDI Rabbit wins 2wd Rally New York autumn rally sprints
« on: October 09, 2009, 10:45:04 am »
Hey guys,

didn't think justin (greasecar) had posted this, so i thought everyone might enjoy some vw diesel racing news. After a dnf at new england forest rally, we pulled the car back together (new suspension, motor mounts, skid plate, oil pan, etc, etc.) and managed to place third 2wd at black river stages a month ago (beating out the other mkIV tdi rally car). At the most recent event, rally new york autumn rally sprints, we actually managed our first win in 2wd (5th overall). We'll be running in 2 weeks (october 23-24) at the same site as the previous race in narrowsburg, ny if anyone wants to check it out (we'll need the help as we're running in the same class as ken block with his mkII escort this time around).

Cool. So do you have to run with turbo gassers as well? Is that group 5?
2006 Jetta TDI - gtb1749v, Malone 2, Frank's Titan 2 cam, VR6 clutch....
1991 Jetta TD - sold :(
2001 Golf TDI - Son's
1981 Rabbit - BEW tdi swap project

yeah, it matters who's putting on the race if they even break down 2wd into separate classes (rally new york doesn't) but if they do we have to run group 5 since its certainly not stock and its a turbo. Generally, its a bunch of gti's, a few ford rally spec focus', mkII escorts, mazdas, and in the bigger events you'll see sorensen in his saab 99, some neon's and maybe hordjik in the mkIV golf tdi.

Heck most of the pics of the course looked like my driveway at the farm and the roads around Holmes County...only they are better groomed at the track there. That is definately my kind of driving. Is there a DVD or something out yet. I would love to watch this. I only have farmervision aka antennae TV , but would love to own it and watch anytime.

Thanks...justin's got a blog of build/races over at http://www.greasecarmotorsports.com/follow-the-team/rally/. I don't think the last few races have gone up yet, but most of the build photos are on page 2.

theman53 - sorry, no dvd yet. The last few races have been on pretty well maintained roads, especially the most recent one which were all just refinished.
