hello Im new here as well as to diesels and recently i picked up a 97 jetta with the AAZ.  I wanted to turn the smoke screw up a little on the injection pump, but it was rusted so i ended up taking out the screw as well as the nut to get them loose from eachother. than i put it back in to stock and than an additional 1/4 turn. Now the car will not fire up. Does the pump have to be primed? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Just keep cranking. You let some air into the pump when you took the screw out.

Turn it in a bit more until it fires up, holding the go pedal to the floor might help too. Get ready to shut it off 'cause it might rev out of control, you'll then have to adjust the idle.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Also make sure you didn't accidentally short out the circuit to the fuel shut off solenoid if you tried to turn the locknut on the screw while the engine was running and touched the top of the solenoid with your wrench. Don't ask me how I found that out  ::)

Soooo been there... Was adjusting it with the engine running and it just STOPPED.  D'oh...

The older cars don't have a fuse on that wire, so the consequences of shorting it out are quite a bit more severe...
