I posted recently about a 97 I had bought from a dealer in Toronto.
I posted it smoked and ran with no power, well today I found out why.
I had a mechanic friend of mine take a look at her. The first thing he noticed is that the oil feed line that comes from the filter to the turbo had been purposfully squased in 2 different sections of the line. The whole line being rusty, it obviously been done a while ago.
We thought for a while why would someone do this, then we found out. The turbo itself is FUBAR'd, the shaft is seared off inside. Only thing we could think of is the crimped the line becasue when the turbo went it must have somehow started to leak oil so the cut off the oil source.
Long story short the local Rapist (dealer/mechanic) says 1600.00 CAD to replace turbo and line.
As you can imagine, I am not impressed to say the leaste. I called the dealership I bopught it from and they said, "Turbo, I didn't even know that car was turbo"...."I will give you 300.00 towards the repair".....
When I bought the car luckly it came with a warrenty through A-Protect, which I had to upgrade to cover Turbo's, so they will pay the first 1000.00 bones of the repair.
Now for the questions
1. Does anyone know/have a turbo they would like to sell me (I don't care the shipping, but if your close to Kingston that would be sweet)?
2. Should I just take the 300 from the dealer and fix the car or take them to court for the full amount I have to pay?
PS the dealer name is SUPERIOR AUTO SALES out of Toronto.
Thanks for the help and advice guys.
Find a good independent shop that can do the work. Make sure to get the warranty company to approve the repair. Get the 300 from the dealer you bought the car from. Depending on the labour rate and the price of the turbo, you might even come out ahead.
Are you sure the warranty will cover what is clearly an existing problem which happened before you bought the policy? I would read your policy very carefully as they are written so there are many outs for the insurance company.
Good luck
Mike
