How to beat a 1.8 8v Mk2 Golf GTI with 1.9 TD Passat?
« on: October 03, 2005, 12:25:55 pm »
Golf is standard apart from backbox and a cone filter.

The Passat is standard but will have intercooler, free flow air intake.

How much boost will i need to run on a KKK03 turbo?
What would i need to alter on the pump to fuel the extra boost?

Test is 0 to 100mph.

I also have a NOS kit with 50bhp jets if i need it.

mkIV 'GTI' or GTI if you know what i mean...

they offered them with the base 2L motor and they are slowww

i dunno what it would take to beat that mkII but remember he's got a huge weight advantage on you. the nitrous can't hurt! oh wait, sure it can

So i am looking at over a bar of boost and Nos.

Or upgrading to a KKK24.

I have 2 months to sort out some power.

Whats the difference in weight between the 2?

Euro Mk4 GTI's are -'00 2.3 V5 or '00-'02 1.8T 20v.. both 150hp (and possible a later MK4 GTI with 180hp)

Your weight is a big disadvantage, thats why I beat the Mk4.. My caddy weight about 300kg's less  :!:

Are you sure you have a KKK K03? I thought ther stock AAZ turbos were KKK K14 and Garrett T2's? they can run about 14PSI max, but lack good flow capacity and are restrictive in the higher revs (check my bigger turbo, less boost topic)

It is the KKK03. Turbo is a bit small. Would like a KKK24 does it use the same manifold as the KKK03?

All exhaustmanifolds are the same but you will have a problem with the oilfeed (bend it into shape) and the oilretour (needs a piece of oilresistanthose to connect the ends). And possible the exhaust too but I can't tell cause I have a custom downpipe/exhaust.

The problem is finding a KKK24 turbo in the scrapyards. What year of passat/golf etc had them? I know 1.6 TD engines.

I am sure if i take the turbo, oil feed and downpipe i can fit it without any problems.

The Oilfeed does not fit on the K24/T3... the stock turbos have a screw-in type (won't ever fit because the exhaust is almost blocking the exit)), the K24/T3 have a flange type.  I just cut the flexpiece off the K24s oilline and put a piece of oil/heat resistant hose over both the ends of the part on the turbo and the part on the engine.

Today i carried out the  "Make your 1.9TD a faster car" DIY Thread.

I altered the Screw No5 Max fuel adjuster to around 400rpm over standard idle. Then i used the No7 screw ( service idle adjuster) which came off at the bottom of the rod. Put it back together and adjuster a bit to get idle about 1100rpm. Altered Screw No6 a little so i could get idle speed to 1000rpm.

I altered the boost from holding 9-10psi to 13psi.

I have left the limit switch on and it boosts to 12-13everytime. Is there any point in the first stage where you have to withdraw the limit switch.
It isnt very clear of what you have to do.

The Engine goes alot better but i am looking for more power.
Can i increase the fuel more by altering the fueling again as i havent got any smoke under load yet?

I still have to fit the intercooler aswell.

I hope i have done the above steps correctly.

Any help or suggestions would be helpful.

I have now sourced a 1.6TD boost pin. So when it arrives i will fit with the intercooler once i find a inlet pipe the other way around.
