Radiator cap pressure?
« on: September 27, 2009, 09:31:22 am »
What pressure radiator cap should a 1.6TD run?

Too low a pressure it can overheat, too high a pressure could cause headgasket problems.

13psi?

it needs a VW specific cap. i think they run at some non-standard pressure. something rediculiously low.

Hmmmm....

This could be a problem then.

I'm getting a radiator made for my samurai conversion and need to let them know what it is.

Robert Bentley says the cap should release at:

1.20 to 1.35 bar (17 to 19 psi).

and the system test pressure (without the cap on) is 18 psi.

Ridiculously high is right....

17 to 19 psi? Gotta make sure I don't blow apart the heater core in the samurai

I think I might have to settle for a 16psi cap to sort of split the difference. Thoughts?

generally speaking turbo models of any manufacture will have higher pressure caps with no change to the stock rad..just an example my subi N/A 16psi ..turbo model 18psi ..aftermarket cap from crucial racing 1.4 bar or 20.3 psi..no problems
