May i pose an intake location question?

  you could do both. Use the "bucket" wall to mount the nozzles, and use the ice when you are "at the track" or wish to supercool your air charge. The other option is relocating your AC so it blows into the intake, cooling the charge.

oh, its way possible, i just dug my 92 jetta out because im gonna start in on that project. i looked up under the rain tray and there is room in a MK2 also. let me dig up the link to my thread, it has pictures of the intake setup. really tidied up my engine bay when i removed the air filter and all the piping.

pictures 2 and 3 show the intake setup the best. its on the passenger side behind the intake mani.

and i really dont know what everyone is talking about saying the rain tray is noisy? it made my car no louder, just you can kinda hear the compresor chopping up air at idle. sounds really neat.

Thanks for the link!  One question, though...  I can't see the filter itself really well, but I'm wondering what you do about it getting wet (or does it??)  Wouldn't some water drip on it, soak it from below?

Okay, so I took a quick look at my rain tray area.  I see a couple of issues:
1.  That's where the intake for the heater is...  One would have to remove the elevated screen assembly to make room for the engine air filter.  Maybe one could reconfigure it so it wasn't so elevated, but then you'd have to make sure to keep your rain tray drains good and clear of leaves.  Either way, it looks like there is less room for an engine air filter in a Mk 2 than in your Mk 1 photos.

2.  I have an A/C car, and the hard lines run along the firewall at the upper edge of the tray - leaves less room to cut a hole below them while still being in the tray sheetmetal and not in the passenger compartment (if that makes sense). 

I do see that the plastic tray does a good job of shielding out water from above.  One would only have to worry about a flood from below.  Although, come to think of it, once you cut a hole to let the  air duct through, you've just made another huge drain...

well, you can do it if you want, but thats going to be where my air filter is going to be on my 92. i know about the a/c and stuff. i took it out and threw it away yo. i dont own a vehicle with working a/c. this year, i could have used a/c about 3 times. thats 2 more times than a normal year.i was honestly thinking of putting it in the drivers side of the rain tray. thats where all the gasser computers go. and i wont be using them, so there gone.
