re: My possible turbo-diesel 924 commuter --
I just bought a '85 Quantum TD on ebay for the princely sum of $445. Supposed to have a good lump (166k), got to borrow a trailer and drag it home next week.
Dosen't look too rusty, will have to decide if it's going to be a runner or a donormoble! :D

I think quantums look great, especially with about an inch drop, and 'snowflake' wheels. Very retro looking.
I repair, maintain and modify VW's and BMW's.
Good work done at affordable rates. Welding and fabricating, too.
Performance Diesel Injection's Super Pump: gotta have one!

Wish we had those in Canada. I saw a delivery Quantum TD in MTL a few weeks ago.

i still regret not saving a quantum syncro wagon from a wrecking yard 10 years ago. That car was sweet!

Ahhh...so you were the one who outbid my incredibly generous $150 bid, huh?  You'll have to let me know how it turns out.  My Quantum is in the process of a mini-restoration right now. Hoping to get the engine and tranny out of it today, but the hangover might interfere...
Good luck!

My Son looked at it last week, says "It's a runner!"
Got plates for it, going to drive it home tomorrow, wish me luck!

Finally got to drive the "Big Q" home from Rochester Monday night.
Absolutely the uglyest car I've ever driven. Rattlecan paint coming off in great big flakes, bumpers hanging on both ends, trim missing or flapping in the breeze.
No shocks at all, brakes only slightly better, only one window working (but at least it was the drivers -- v. handy at toll booths!), much bailing wire keeping the rest together.
The good news -- no smoke from the engine and it ran fine and pulled well. Excellent oil and belt maintainance records back to '92. Good trany and clutch and a real nice radio!
The decision -- it's a donormoblie!
Going to pull everything that can be used for the diesel 924 project and get rid of the rest.
Anyone looking for Quantum parts, let me know.
