What year Jetta or Gulf to buy
« on: September 30, 2005, 08:19:05 am »
Hi I am new to VW Diesels and want to purchase one. I have been reading posts for a while and red a link showing transmission ratios. When looking at the list there does not seem to be any rime or reason for the different ratios. What years of 1.6 turbo Jetta or Golf would be best for power and freeway cruising? I have not seen a list of horsepower ratings for these cars. Can some one post a list of horsepower ratings for the different years please. This is a great site and I am glad I found it.
Thank you.

There are a few web pages that list basic engine info of the diesel engines:
http://scirocco.cs.uoguelph.ca/gtd/VW%20diesel%20engines.htm

Common IDI diesel engines sold in the US were the CK (1.5 liter naturally aspirated), CR and ME (1.6 liter naturally aspirated), CY and MF (1.6 liter turbo), and 1V (1.6 turbo eco).

In canada there was also the AAZ (1.9 liter turbo).

Thank you for the responce. From the list it seams all 1.6l TD engines are 70hp. What factor determined the transmission overdrive ratios?
