What headgasket do I want
« on: September 18, 2009, 06:38:20 pm »
I have a 92 Ecodiesel with some mods. Can I see the notches when I take it out or do you just pick the one you want? I am running 17psi of boost, Arp head studs, front mount intercooler, td pump. The stock one is leaking a little so I will be replacing it soon.

You really have to measure the protrusion if you aren't sure it actualy has the original or the right one on it now.  Most from the factory seem to be 2's.  If you have a 2 on it now it is probably right but if it's a 3 I'd deffinately measure.  I just put a T/D together over the winter and the pistons were .005 thousandths shorter in the kit so you could plane the block and it put me right at the upper end of a 1 notch.  Measuring is definately the best way though.

What is the part number for the AAZ head gasket? I heard this is the one you want for the peformance vw diesel. Do you have to do anything or can you just put them right in?

If its a 92 eco engine (hydraulic head) its a direct useage.
I would use the metal too since you already have studs.

It has some small extra weep holes in the gasket for coolant passes, where the 1.6 doesn't have any. You can leave it that way - or you can drill your castings and incorporate the passages.

I don't know any part numbs, but its a Mk3 93-9? (late 90's) non american issue 1.9 TD - AAZ code engine.

You will need to For Sure measure your protrusion if you plan to use an AAZ metal - and order by the measurement defacto.
Not a notch count. On that swap, i think i've seen that the 1.6 and 1.9 have diffrnt specs on the ranges.

And most are saying torque them with studs to 100+ ft lbs.

On your existing H.gasket, you might can find the number of hole punches or notches by looking along the front edge lengthwise, before you take it apart.
