using a gasser intake

I was looking at the now accumulating pile of parts strewn about my garage "need to organize desperately" and thought to myself, HEY! I wonder, can I use a gasser intake for my diesel??? I am sure this has been addressed before, however I was having a difficult time using the search feature as I am currently at work and somehow there is a script of some sort blocking HTML bases search protocols..... I think. Anywhoo, is this possible? has someone done it? how was it done? can it be done better? what is the best mani. to use? is it beneficial? etc.

this is for a stock 1.5 engine in a 80 diesel rabbit.... soon to be rebuilt.

yes you can, but if you are using a stock turbo and manifold it will need to be flipped and reclocked so the turbo hangs off the manifold instead of sitting on top of it.

I dont have any good pics at the moment, but the stock diesel turbo setup interferes with the gas intake manifold.
if you are going to be using a different turbo and making your own manifold make sure that it clears the intake.

I am not using the stock turbo, or the sock mani. I am making a five bolt flange to bolt onto the two-one downpipe, I think that the heat will be much esier to manage there, plus it gives a great cold air intake location, despite to-intercooler pipe lengths I think this way will work out pretty well, what I will end up doing is modding the intake mani for intake on the right side unless there is a substitute with this setup already? That would be awesome if there was. the turbo will be monted to the downpipe, the intake will run from under the car and the air charge will be cooled by a hood mount intercooler, similar to the wrx.

Good luck with that. At least with you having an A1 car it might work out ok, on an A2 it's pretty much impossible. I even have an aftermarket ATP-style turbo manifold and there is no way to get it to work with a gasser intake, which makes me wonder how the turbo A2 8v gas cars do it, other than swapping to an ABA head, which coincidentally, is the only way I've been able to find anyone on the Vortex do it.

ive got a stock digi manifold w/ a GT1749 VNT turbo. no clearance issues.

That's an A1 chassis and a "hang-down" manifold. Completely different than what I've got but that setup should work for the Original Poster.

of course it would work for him, he has an 81 rabbit also, pretty sure all the engine bays were the same.

1Y is probly the best for 1.6 or 1.9 , PD150 is the easiest to just bolt on with a I.C. thou....

I solved the problem of how other intakes won't work, now I can use any intake.
