Dynamic time inj pump in an AAZ
« on: September 16, 2009, 10:04:16 pm »
Hello all, it's my first post here. I just bought a 97 Jetta with the AAZ and I should do the belt since I have no record of it being done.  I have a pizio timing light adapter that clamps on the inj line and I'm looking some input on what deg would be best to set the pump at when I do the belt.

What is the procedure to set the boost? Gauge in the cab and pull a hill... and set the nuts on the waste gate so I get 10 lbs ?

My flex pipe after the turbo has a small leak and I'm planning on making up a 3" downpipe and sticking a generic stainless braided flex on the end after the bend under the car and maybe getting rid of the resonator at the very back after that huge "suite case" muffler.  Any thoughts?  Better performance?

Besides the crank nose is there anything else I need to know about this engine?

Thanks
Mike

Welcome to our home :)

Sounds like you need to read through the FAQ in the IDI section, that will answer probably 90% of your questions.
If after you read that and still have questions then post up your questions.

To your specific question about using a timing light:  no one seems to have ever found an official dynamic VW spec... the "official" spec is static, using a dial indicator.

Having said that, various folks here have dialed it in statically and then looked at it dynamically and it seems to be somewhere in the 6-8 degrees BTDC range.

Vincent, at what rpm would that test be carried out? 1400rpm by any chance?
