WTB: air box clamps for 85 golf
« on: September 14, 2009, 07:28:01 am »
I need 4 of the long air box clamps for my 85 Golf.  I have the two short ones that go on the diagonal corners (bottom left and top right).  I estimate that these long clamps are about 3.5 inches long.  I'm not exactly sure what they should look like because I never had them to begin with.

Sounds like you have a Rabbit intake. Not a Golf intake. The Golf intake has swing-clips, rather than straight clips.

The four clips which you are looking for never seem to do a very good job keeping the top half tightly in place....I hate them.

I have heard of guys using several zip ties (two or three combined) all the way around the box to "clamp" the lid on.
Also, you can use long hose clamps (two or more combined) in the same way as the zip ties above.

I used to have a lot of those clips but gave away my extras. I use zip ties in conjunction with the 4 clips anyway.
The '86 and and later N/A air boxes were much better at sealing. They only use 4 of the smaller clips and seal up quite well. You have to get the base AND the lid because these are different than the '85 design. The '86 air box sits more vertically oriented and I like it much better.
The mask and the shot(s) are actually an IQ test. If you are wearing or circulating, you just failed the test. I can't feel sorry for you.
